Fatal crash in Chisago City claims two teenage lives
Saturday October 25 at about 2 a.m. the Chisago County 9-1-1 communications center received a notification of a vehicular crash. The cell phone alert came from near Ivywood and Stacy Trail, on the north side of Chisago City.
Lakes Area Police and sheriff patrol responded and learned a Toyota 4-Runner and Camry models were involved and a total of five persons were in the cars. One victim, a 15 year old passenger, died at the scene and a second victim, 17, died later at the hospital.
Authorities who assisted at the crash site included Chisago City and Stacy-Lent Fire/First Responders, Lakes Region Emergency Medical Services, M Health and the Midwest Medical Examiners Office.
Lakes Area is continuing its investigation, with reconstruction expertise from the state patrol. Roadside alert signage has been positioned on Stacy Trail cautioning vehicle drivers of “foot traffic” both east and westbound and to slow down.
Chief Schlumbohm said one of the portable signs belongs to Lakes Area Police and the county emergency management department provided the second device. Neighbors in the area were concerned for youth who have been congregating at the site and placing tributes near two crosses erected.
The vehicle ownership is being sorted out, and the parties’ activities prior to the crash are being looked into. No word from the office of the County Attorney (as of October 31) on criminal charges.
