Update on hours-long shelter in place incident in Wyoming
Wyoming city police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a potentially dangerous situation that led to a man taking his life in Wyoming, around 11 p.m. Tuesday this week.
The police were called by family members at approximately 7:25 p.m. Sept. 9 reporting the suspect was intoxicated and making threats to harm himself. All occupants then left the home located in the 6200 block of Forest Boulevard Trail.
Law enforcement tried to contact the man, but according to Wyoming Police Chief and Director of Public Safety Neil Bauer, no contact was made and no use of force was executed. Gunshots were discharged from the suspect, around 9 p.m. and nearby houses were struck necessitating distribution of a ‘code red’ message for those in the neighborhood to shelter in place.
The county special weapons and tactical unit was sent to assist and through the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) that was deployed into the home, authorities got visual confirmation shortly after 11 p.m. that the subject had taken his life.
Chief Bauer added the reports on social media that the male subject had tried to enter other houses are unfounded. He noted the Wyoming personnel are grateful for the mutual aid sent from North Branch and Lakes Area Police, the State Patrol, Washington county SWAT and Chisago County ermergency response unit and sheriff’s patrol. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends who are grieving the loss of their loved one,” he concluded.
