AREA SOCCER ROUND UP: Mixed results for local squads as season winds down
North Branch Boys
Ryan Troxell scored the only goal for the Viking boys’ soccer team (4-4-4) in a 2-1 loss to the Becker Bulldogs in a Mississippi 8 Conference game Thursday, September 18 at Becker High School. Team scoring leader Jacob Edmonds assisted on Troxell’s goal. Edmonds scored an unassisted goal in the second half to give the Vikings a 1-1 tie against the Forest Lake Rangers on Saturday, September 20 at Forest Lake High School. And in a conference matchup at home on Monday, September 22, the Vikings and Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets battled to a 0-0 tie.
North Branch Girls
The Viking girls (3-2-7) lost 2-1 at home to the Cloquet/Carlton Lumberjacks on Saturday, September 20. On Monday, September 22, the Vikings scored twice in the first half and once in the second half to beat the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets 3-0 in a home Mississippi 8 Conference game.
Chisago Lakes Boys
The Wildcats boys (2-10-0) lost two conference games to drop their record to 2-10-0 for the season. The St. Francis Fighting Saints beat the Wildcats 2-1 at Chisago Lakes High School on Thursday, September 18. Sam Huston scored for the Wildcats, assisted by Blake Trupe. And the Monticello Magic overcame a 2-0 deficit at halftime, scoring five goals in the second half, to crush the Wildcats 5-2 on Monday, September 22 at Monticello High School. Caiden Bonds scored both goals for the Wildcats and Bode Marten and Tucker Hanson each picked up an assist.
Chisago Lakes Girls
In their only action last week, the Wildcat girls (6-4-2) lost to the Monticello Magic 2-0 on Monday, September 22 to drop their record to 6-4-2 for the season.
Soccer Stuff
Tonight is Rivalry Night for the Wildcats and Vikings. The boys’ team will face off against each other at 4:45 p.m. at North Branch High School, immediately followed by a clash between the girls’ teams at 7 p.m. at North Branch High School.
The regular season ends next week. The Viking boys have three road games remaining after the matchup with the Wildcats: at Princeton on Monday, September 29 at 4:45 p.m.; against the Cloquet/Esko/Carlton Lumberjacks at Members Cooperative Credit Union Stadium at Cloquet High School on Tuesday, September 30 at 7 p.m.; and they’ll end the season at the Mesabi Range Community & Technical College against the Mesabi East Giants at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 2. The Viking girls will play the Duluth Denfeld Hunters in a matinee this Saturday a 11 a.m. at Lincoln Park Middle School in Duluth. They will end the season on Monday, September 29 against the Princeton Tigers at Princeton High School at 7 p.m.
The Wildcat boys will end the season with two games at home. They will take on the Zimmerman Thunder on Monday. September 29 at 4:45 p.m., and will welcome the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks to Lindstrom on Thursday, October 2 for a 6:30 p.m. game. The Wildcat girls will also end the season with two home games. They will play the Zimmerman Thunder at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 29, and will take on the St. Francis Fighting Saints at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 4.
