Corrine Mix

Corrine Ann (Strand) Mix, 85, formerly of Chisago City, died Saturday, August 8, at Meadows on Fairview in Wyoming, MN. Corrine was born November 8, 1940 to Arthur William (A.W.) and Muriel Palma (Strand) Strand, the second of four children and the only daughter. She was baptized at Augustana Academy in Canton, SD because Arthur’s students wanted to see a baptism.

After moving to Forest City, IA from Canton, Corrine attended Forest City Schools until returning to Augustana Academy as a student. Upon her graduation, she attended two years of college at Waldorf in Forest City, followed by two years at St. Cloud State University. It was at St. Cloud State that she met her husband, David Leigh Mix.

The couple was married on August 7, 1966 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Corrine made her wedding gown as well as her bridesmaids’ dresses. She never knew why she chose a long-sleeved dress for an August wedding.

Following the wedding, Corrine and David moved to Chisago City where Corrine became the first public school kindergarten teacher in Chisago County. They purchased an empty lot on Old Towne Road (then Bennett Street), but were convinced to move into the house on the adjacent lot. It became an identifiable house to many, especially as Corrine taught numerous piano students there.

It was a long wait for Corrine to realize her dream of becoming a mother, but eventually she had three girls: Heidi, Sarah, and Amy. Teaching them; sewing schoolbags, school clothes, and doll clothes for them; encouraging their creativity; and nurturing their independence were among Corrine’s gifts.

One mile from the house on Old Towne Road was the family’s home congregation of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. There, Corrine was extremely active during her 60 years of membership. She served on council and a call committee, coordinated missions including quilts, played handbells, directed and sang in choirs, and was superintendent of Sunday school, among other things.

Besides church work, Corrine loved collecting stamps, doing puzzles, playing Scrabble, and cheering on the Minnesota Twins. Since David’s death in 2004, she amassed an extensive collection of dragonflies, seeing them as symbols of comfort and hope thanks to a story shared with her by her goddaughter, Lauren Seaburg. This collection was constantly added to by both old and new friends as she shared its meaning with them.

Corrine was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Allen Strand and James Strand; and her husband David.

She is survived by her daughters, The Reverend Heidi LeighAnn Wallace of Fountain, MN, Sarah (Christopher) Weber of Elk River, MN, Amy Johns of North Branch, MN, her brother, Howard Strand of Milltown, WI; her sister-in-law, Carol Strand of Chatfield, MN; two nieces, Emma Strand and Carrie Strand of Chatfield, MN; a son-in-love, Peter Johns of Jordan, MN; three grandsons, Luke Weber, Mason Weber, and Weston Johns; and so many friends who became family.

Memorial service for Corrine will take place 11 AM Friday, August 21, 2026 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chisago City, MN. Visitation one hour prior. There will also be an evening visitation taking place the night before, on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Grandstrand Funeral Home – Lindstrom, MN from 5–7 PM. Burial at Chisago City Memorial Park.
