January 9

The county sheriff’s office dispatched a K9 unit to Isanti County to assist in a burglary scene. The suspect was not on the premises any longer and no subject was detained. Call came in about 1:30 p.m.

January 8

The on-call duty officer through the state pollution control agency took a complaint about the debris and pollutants being dumped on the edge of a bay of South Center lake. Lindstrom city was informed of the concern, and the LAPD also made aware.

A new scam is making the rounds....a local resident advised authorities they had received a call that a close family member needed a deposit of a sum of money in order to get an ankle monitor which would allow them to be released from being held in a jail.  A call or text is not a legitimate method of this type of request. If you are contacted, get a phone number for the jail and verify the situation with the administrator.

January 5

Two incidents of potentially dangerous weapons at area schools. One was a young student who was on the Lakeside campus for intermittent academic services and carried a knife. He made no threats and the school worked with the child’s guardian on this incident. The other was an air soft (replica firearm) weapon at the Lindstrom high school.  Law enforcement confiscated the device and the county attorney was asked to review for charges.  Schools have zero tolerance for weapons of any kind.

Three vaping devices were found at area schools resulting in tickets being issued.

Updates on incidents

The person found deceased in Paradise Park, Chisago City, on December 29 succumbed to having ingested a quantity of drugs and the freezing temperatures, according to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s findings. No foul play is being investigated.

Also, the subject taken into custody by Lakes Area Police, (aided by a host of responding agencies) on December 30 has been hospitalized.   The male was barricaded in a building in Chisago City, where he is co-owner of a cannabis testing firm that rents the space.  He was threatening to use explosives and chemicals to do harm to the structure and himself.  Authorities learned he is trained in chemistry and has the skills to facilitate destruction. The incident resulted in many nearby residences and businesses  being evacuated.  

He was detained after several hours and booked with no injuries. January 5  public records show a district court judge ordered him to be kept at a facility on a medical hold, and receive further evaluation.
