Boys
The boys’ wrestling team won both duals as the hosts at the Chisago Lakes Triangular on Thursday, January 15. The Wildcats triumphed over Big Lake 49-24 and beat Mora 44-27. Seven Wildcats won both of their matches on for the day: Grant Hansen (107), Conner Aspenson, Lucas Yang (133), Gus Strub (139), Brannick Malchow (152(, Luke Grabow (189) and Matt Raboin (285). Strub had the most exciting match of the day, going to overtime against Bentley Hill of Mora before claiming a 20-17 sudden victory.

That same evening, the Wildcat girls wrestled a dual against Mora, losing 60-6. Two wrestlers also wrestled against Big Lake. Libby Carlson (235) was the only Wildcat girl to win matches. She pinned Sylvia Carlstrom of Mora at 108 and won by a 4-1 decision over Jaydin Dahn of Big Lake.

St. Croix Lutheran Lady Crusader Invitational
The Wildcat girls finished eighth at the 17-team St. Croix Lutheran Lady Crusader Invitational on Friday, January 16. Individually, the top two Wildcat finishers were Ruby Schlender (170), who came in third, and Libby Carlson (235), who came in fourth. Schlender lost her opening match by pin to Alyssa Diedrich of Roseville at 4:34. In the wrestlebacks, she needed just 58 seconds to pin Camden Rodriguez-Hild of Maple Grove, and followed that up with a pin over Mu Wah of St Paul Humboldt-Open World Learning to earn a spot in the third place match against Reece Siedlicki of Apple Valley. Schlender won by a 12-3 major decision over Siedlicki to claim third place.
Carlson opened with a pin just three seconds before the end of match against Jocelyn Stillwell of Cloquet-Esko-Carlton. She lost her second match by pin at 2:47 to Reymie Keenan of Minneapolis Edison. She won by fall over Ashlynn Johnon of Roseville and lost by a 4-1 decision to Mila Carnahan of Apple Valley to finish fourth.

The next day, the boys participated in a boys’ invitational at St. Croix Lutheran. They finished fourth out of 15 teams. Conner Aspenson won all three of his matches to claim first place at 114 pounds and needed less than three minutes of mat time to do it. He needed just ten seconds to pin Jaxon Berry of North Branch. He won by fall over Colton Wiltrout of Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg/Siren in 51 seconds. And in his third first-period pin of the day, he triumphed over Finn Root of WEM-JWP at 145 to claim the championship.

Wrestling Whangdoodles
Tomorrow night, the girls will head across the border into the land of cheeseheads to participate in the 46-team Saint Croix Falls Girls Tournament, with matches getting underway starting at 4 p.m. And on Tuesday, January 27, the boys will head to Minneapolis Edison for a dual meet that starts at 4 p.m.
