Allen Kask

Allen (Bud) Kask passed away at home on Friday, July 24th , 2026.

Bud was born on July 3, 1930 in Chisago City, MN to Leonard and Effie (Johnson) Kask.

He lived his entire life in the Chisago Lakes Area, graduating from Chisago City High School in 1948.  

After school he went into the army and served from January 1952 to December 1953 during the time of the Korean war.

He started working at Andersen Windows after coming home from the service. He worked two week rotating day, night and evening shifts for 35 years before retiring on December 15, 1989.  He was very proud of working for Andersen Windows, of the friends he made there and of the products they produced.  He enjoyed attending the annual Quarter Century Club picnic up until just last year.

On February 16, 1961, he married Icy Ann Richter and had an instant family with six boys between the ages of 6 and 13.  In a few years’ time, they had three more children and a full, busy home on the farm in Chisago City.

Having been an Eagle Scout and a scout leader himself, he felt it was important that the boys also joined scouting.  He also felt a lot was learned by hard work and responsibility; the farm provided ample opportunity for both.

Bud was very proud of his Swedish heritage and especially in artifacts from his direct ancestors.  A highlight was traveling to Sweden in 1980. He met with a second cousin on his Dad’s side and enjoyed seeing the old homestead and towns his grandfather had talked of. 

After retiring from Andersen Windows, he and Icy enjoyed traveling across the USA visiting relatives and friends.  They also enjoyed meeting friends at area casinos which were somewhat new to Minnesota at the time.

After Icy’s passing in 2014, life slowed down a lot for Bud.   He had his routine of going into town for breakfast at the Swedish Inn, enjoying crossword puzzles with his coffee friends there, heading home in time for a little “puttering” around the farm and then sitting down for his westerns before supper and bed.

He enjoyed good health until 2023 when he was found to have end stage kidney disease which led to dialysis starting in 2024.

Survivors include his sister, Betty Garza; his children Dan Richter, Gerry (Charlene) Richter, Susan (Bill) Myrick, Lisa (Mike) Hughes and John Kask and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife Icy, his parents,  his brothers Glenn and Earle and his sons Jim Richter, Mike Richter, Dave Richter and Rick Richter.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2026 at First United Methodist Church in Lindstrom, MN.  Visitation one hour prior to the service at church.  Interment at Methodist Cemetery in Center City, MN will take place at a later date.
