Tom was born on March 31, 1940 in St. Paul, MN. He passed away peacefully at the age of 86, on July 22, 2026 at Parmly on the Lake Memory Care. Tom grew up in White Bear Lake and married the love of his life, Grace, on September 8, 1962. In 1971, Tom and Grace moved to their home in Chisago City where they raised their four children and continued to live there for 50 years, before moving to their home in Lindstrom in 2020.

Tom was a very dedicated and hard-working man. He took great pride in his excavating business, TA Schmidt and Sons Excavating. He had a great passion for his work, and he lived his life working hard to provide for his family, whom he deeply loved. For many years, long after retirement, Tom could be found working at the shop and visiting job sites. Tom had a deep love for his family and enjoyed any time spent with them. Throughout the years, Tom and Grace were the heart of the family, from hosting countless family gatherings to supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting events.

Tom will be remembered for his quiet strength and kindness, his strong work ethic, unwavering devotion to his family and warm smile. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love him.

Tom is preceded in death by his father Vernon Schmidt; mother Ercell Bowman; stepmother Joan Schmidt; brothers David Schmidt and Danny Schmidt.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Grace; children Carol Law (Jonathan), Michael Schmidt, Mark (Krisi) Schmidt, Steve (Jenny) Schmidt; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Kenneth (Marie) Schmidt, Vernon (Cheryl) Schmidt and Martin (Faith) Schmidt; sisters Cheryl (Ron) Istvanovich and Beverly Hansen; Many other cherished relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on August 10, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Lakes Free Church in Lindstrom. A visitation will be held an hour and a half prior at church. Luncheon to follow. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
