William “Bill” John Matko, age 78, was born in Virginia Minnesota on October 7, 1947. He peacefully passed away on July 14, 2026 with Patti, his loving wife of 53 years by his side.
Bill was a kind and generous soul whose warmth and steady presence were felt by everyone who knew him. He especially loved Minnesota sports, with a special place in his heart for the Minnesota Twins. Bill cherished the opportunity to take in Twins games with his family, creating memories that lasted long after the final pitch.
In addition to sports and time with loved ones, Bill truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—trying new restaurants, sampling sweets, and savoring coffee, along with joining friends for happy hours and playing cards. Whether he was in Texas with longtime friends, or at home with family, he brought a sense of camaraderie wherever he went. Bill also had a talent for bringing people together through humor. He provided endless laughs, from relaxed family dinners to game nights that included his grandchildren. His love and patience made those moments especially memorable.
Bill and Patti shared a spirit of adventure through many road trips across the United States, and they even spent some time in Europe. Through these journeys and everyday gatherings alike, Bill created a life defined by connection, joy, and generosity.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Fefo and Sophie and sister MaryAnn (Robert) Fodness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patti; children Chris (Traci), John (Amanda) and Amy; grandchildren Carter, Gavin, Anika, Olivia; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
