A dominant first half helped top-seeded Chisago Lakes roll into the next round of the Section 7A playoffs with a convincing 19-5 victory over No. 8 seed Anoka in the quarterfinals on Thursday, May 28.

The Wildcats wasted little time taking control, erupting for seven first-quarter goals and adding six more in the second period to build a commanding 13-4 halftime lead. Chisago Lakes continued to apply pressure after the break, outscoring the Tornadoes 5-1 in the third quarter before closing out the win with a goal in the fourth.

A balanced offensive attack powered the Wildcats. Linnea Carlson and Camryn Hinsch each scored five goals, with Carlson adding an assist for a team-high six points. Raeann Goehring contributed two goals and two assists, while Naomi Eaton also finished with four points on two goals and two assists.

Katelyn Anderson added two goals and an assist, while Zoey Nash, Grace Nelson and Madelyn Rambosek each found the back of the net. Alexandra Smothers chipped in an assist as Chisago Lakes totaled 19 goals and seven assists on the afternoon.

The Wildcats also received strong defensive play, limiting Anoka to just 16 shots. Goalkeeper Michaela Altendorf turned aside eight shots while allowing five goals. Libby Carlson handled the final two minutes to get a taste of postseason action.

With the win, Chisago Lakes advanced to the section semifinals, where they took on fourth seeded Andover on Tuesday, June 2. If they win that game, they’ll host the section championship game at home on Thursday, June 4 against either Blaine or Centennial.

The girls then beat Andover in the section semifinals and edged out an 11-10 victory over Blaine in the section championship game to advance to state for the second year in a row. For a full recap of those games, check out next week's Chisago County Press.
