“I won't be alone. I'll be with the Lord.”
Jeanenne Agnes Zank, age 95, of Lindstrom, MN, passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of Sunday June 7.
Born on August 13, 1930 in Hugo, MN to parents Raymond and Louise L’Allier (Parenteau), she entered the world in the local doctor’s house. This “reverse house call” set the tone for a life that often broke the mold for a woman of her era.
She married Harold Zank — the love of her life and husband of 54 years — in 1950 and relocated to a dairy farm outside of Center City, MN in 1954. Together on the farm, they raised three daughters, milked hundreds of cows, canned thousands of quarts of fruit and vegetables, and found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether attending polka dances on Saturday nights, playing host to grandchildren, visiting with friends and family, traveling, or watching their land transform with the changing seasons.
Jeanenne was not afraid to get her hands dirty and was incredibly handy, later reflecting that she would have enjoyed being a plumber. When she wasn’t using her hands on the farm, she was using them at the Unisys factory where she worked until her retirement in 1988. She enjoyed cooking and baking — her apple pie was a multigenerational favorite — and kept her mind sharp to the end by playing cards with family and her friends at Point Pleasant.
Jeanenne was preceded in death by Harold; brothers Raymond, Allarde, and Michael L’Allier; parents Raymond and Louise L’Allier, and son-in-law Henry Granillo. She is survived and missed by her daughters Sherry Granillo, Kathy Hogenson (Terry), and Lynn Carlson (Ronnie); sister Celeste Houle, brother Gene L’Allier, and many nieces and nephews.
She cherished being a grandmother and is survived by six grandchildren: Eric (Kim) Froberg, Amy (Jason) Gonzales, Brian (Andrea) and Steven Hogenson, Heather (Trevor) Hanson, and Brandon Carlson; and 13 great grandchildren: Lauren, Zack and Jacob Froberg; Raquelle and Janelle Gonzales; Adam, Bradley, and Claire Hogenson; James, Marcus, Raegen, Kennedi, and Paula Hanson.
A longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund and current member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom, her faith was a source of guidance and comfort throughout her life.
On Friday, June 26, friends and family are invited to a visitation at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. and a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
