Josephine Bennett Petros, age 82, passed away on February 24, 2026 surrounded by her children.

Josephine was born on April 21, 1943, to Benjamin and Hazel Whitmer. She spent her life in the Twin Cities, where she met the love of her life, Nick Petros. Their love story began at a young age and blossomed into a long and beautiful marriage. Together they built a life rooted in deep devotion, strong faith, abundant laughter and a large family. 

Josephine was a devoted wife, mom, grandma, GiGi, and friend. Her greatest joy was her family. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed, cared for and well fed. In addition to raising her own four children, she opened her heart and home as a dedicated foster parent to many children and young adults over the years, offering love, stability, and belonging to those who needed it most.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Nick Petros; her daughter, Brenda Olson; granddaughter Leah Petros, grandson Gabriel Petros and her great-granddaughter, Brees Savageau. Josephine is survived by her children Jolynn Creger (Bill), Angela Savageau (Jordan), and Peter Petros; her son-in-law Steve Olson; 30 grandchildren; and 23 (and counting) great-grandchildren. 

Her legacy lives on through the generations who knew her as their steady source of love, warmth, and encouragement. Her absence leaves an immeasurable space at our tables and in our hearts. And while her competitive spirit around the card table will be missed, it is only fair that the rest of her family and friends might finally have a chance to win a hand. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church in Lindstrom.  Visitation will take place from 5-8 pm on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and also one hour prior to mass at church on Saturday. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
