Amador Twsp. budget to increase
Amador Township held its annual meeting March 10. Twenty six attended the meeting. Bob Linder was made the moderator. Linder told the audience the township has a proposed budget for 2027 of $525,000 which is up from $485,000 in 2026. Amador’s road and bridge fund increased by $30,000 as well as building property $5,000 and debt services $5,000. The township citizens voted unanimously to pass the preliminary budget.
Linder noted the township still has $265,000 remaining on the fire hall bond. Linder said there will be remaining monies from the fire hall bond that will be used towards the new fire truck that has been ordered. The township will split the cost of the truck, as it did the fire hall with Shafer Township, Sunrise Township, Franconia Township and Chisago Lake Township. The named townships pay a portion that is figured out by the number of homes the fire department serves. Amador is responsible for 36.46 percent, Sunrise 46 percent, Shafer 8.61 percent and Chisago Lake 8.93 percent.
Treasurer Lin Strong then told the audience the plan to extend the city sewer line is scheduled for Maple Lane. The service will cover four commercial businesses and one residential property. Strong said properties along the south side of Maple Lane are experiencing sewer failures and will be addressed next year.
Strong also pointed out the cost of the sewer line and expansion is paid for by the properties utilizing it.
Fire Chief Kevin Johnson then gave a brief rundown on the Almelund Fire Department.
Johnson said the department has one new firefighter and also the department lost one due to retirement. The department responded to 128 calls in 2025 of which 88 were for medical reasons and 40 were fire related. Johnson said the department has a new extrication machine that was completely funded by the fire relief association. Johnson said a local family also donated $24,000 for a Lucas device which is used for administering CPR.
The election saw incumbent Gene Fisk voted in as supervisor with 39 votes. Matt Wright received one write-in vote as did Jesus.
Clay Larson then told the audience the parks committee still has some playground equipment to install this spring in Triangle Park. The committee is hoping to purchase new swings and a new backboard for Triangle Park this year. All of the park equipment is paid for from a fee charged when someone develops a lot within the township limits.
Finally, the audience was reminded to come support the Lions Club at "PattyMelt Wednesdays" at the softball fields. The food sales support many things in the township.
The meeting adjourned at 8:52pm
