Wildcat invite features dual wins

Chisago Lakes

Chisago Lakes put three runners in the top eight and finished second at the Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Senior Remy Larsen led the Wildcats by winning the individual title in 16:39.4, edging North Branch sophomore Caleb Rueter by just 2.7 seconds.

Senior Cian O’Halloran wasn't far behind, taking third in 16:54.1, and junior Nash Cooksley gave the Wildcats their third top-10 finisher with an eighth-place time of 17:37.0.

Junior Jack Evans finished 18th in a season-best 18:07.2, and freshman Zachary Yechout rounded out Chisago Lakes’ scoring five by taking 25th in 18:26.3.

The Wildcats finished with 55 points, trailing only St. Paul Central’s 43 in the eight-team field. Cambridge-Isanti was third with 74 points.

For the girls, Annika Hall dominated the field and Chisago Lakes placed second as a team at the Wildcat Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Hall, a junior, won the individual championship in 18:36.7, finishing nearly a full minute ahead of runner-up Esther Larson of Cambridge-Isanti.

The Wildcats put three runners in the top 10. Junior Averiana Gellerman finished sixth in 20:29.8, while sophomore Kara Hall came in 10th with a time of 21:20.5.

Sophomore Mataya Malek was 17th in 22:06.5 and junior Arianna Husfeldt rounded out the Wildcats’ scoring five in 21st at 22:31.5.

Chisago Lakes finished with 54 points, trailing only Centennial, which won the team title with 35. Cambridge-Isanti was close behind the Wildcats in third with 60 points.

McKaylie Malek added a 25th-place finish in 22:45.6, while eighth grader Emelia Gellerman recorded a personal-best 22:56.5 to finish 28th.


North Branch

North Branch finished fourth with 99 points behind the runner-up performance from Rueter.

The sophomore turned in a personal-best time of 16:42.1, finishing just behind Larsen and more than 12 seconds ahead of third place.

Junior Ethan Rueter also had a strong race, finishing 12th in a personal-best 17:45.5.

The Vikings got three more personal-best performances from their young runners. Eighth grader Patrick Damiani finished 20th in 18:13.0, freshman John Steffen was 28th in 18:30.7 and eighth grader Brooks Trampe rounded out the scoring five in 44th with a time of 19:26.1.

The girls’ Viking squad  finished fifth in the six-team field with 132 points, led by a strong showing from freshman Lyla Stiner.

Stiner was the Vikings’ top finisher, placing 12th overall with a personal-best time of 21:25.2.

Sophomore Lily Stelmack was next across the line for North Branch, finishing 23rd in a season-best 22:35.9.

Senior Ruby Hanson also recorded a season best, taking 36th in 23:46.8. Freshman Vayda Kester finished 41st in a season-best 24:21.2, and junior Elizabeth Damiani completed the Vikings’ scoring five in 45th with a season-best time of 24:53.5.
