James Heinonen

In Loving Memory of James Bradly Heinonen

July 7, 1965 – October 1, 2026

James Bradly Heinonen, age 61, passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2026, in Osceola, Wisconsin, and is now finally at peace.

James was born on July 7, 1965, in West Germany to Fred and Pauline. While he navigated complex personal trials throughout his life-his journey was also defined by deep pride, quiet passion, and an enduring love for his family. Though distance and estrangement grew between James and his children over the years, his love for them never wavered. He spoke of them often and took immense pride and joy in everything they accomplished, viewing his children as the absolute greatest achievement of his life.

In 1987, while working together at Embers restaurant, James met Carolyn Hughes. The two were married in 1988, shortly after the birth of their first child, and went on to raise three children together.

Though he did not complete formal schooling, James was an engineer at heart. He possessed a natural talent for mechanical problem-solving and always loved the challenge of fixing, improving, or building things with his hands. He dedicated many years to operating punch presses before advancing to become a skilled die setter. An exceptional machinist, James took immense pride in his craft, his meticulous attention to detail, and his work ethic.

James was a quiet, reserved man who preferred keeping to himself, but he found deep happiness in life's simpler pleasures. He loved fishing for crappies, coloring, working on vehicles, and tinkering with radio-controlled cars. He held a deep appreciation for antiques and greatly prized his traditional longbow. He was a gifted cook, and shared that skill with his children. He loved animals, and cared deeply for several cherished pets throughout his life. He was an avid movie collector, and enjoyed watching sports-especially football.

Some of James’ happiest moments, both in his childhood and adult life, were spent on his grandparents’ farm in Finlayson, Minnesota. It was a place of comfort and peace for him, and he took great joy in sharing that special farm with his own children in their younger years.

James was truly the last of a dying breed. His unique, unconventional outlook on the world and the resilient life lessons he imparted will live on through his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Kaarlo and Elsie Heinonen; Aunt, Lorraine Chesbrough; and his uncle, Ken Heinonen.

James is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Hughes) Heinonen; his children, Amanda (Adam) Cook, Joseph (Amanda) Heinonen, and Evan Heinonen; his grandchildren, Henry, Emma, Mirella, and Adaline; his parents, Fred and Pauline; his brother, Kevin (Sarah) Heinonen; his sister, Deb; his stepbrothers, Bernard and John Hill; Aunt, Doris Brandle, cousins and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with James’ wishes, no formal religious or funeral services will be held. A private celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
