AREA VOLLEYBALL ROUND UP
The North Branch and Chisago Lakes volleyball teams had opposite results in their final stretch of regular season action last week, as the Vikings picked up a convincing three-set victory over Big Lake while the Wildcats couldn't quite keep pace with Monticello.
North Branch 3, Big Lake 0
The Vikings took care of business on their home court Tuesday, October 13, sweeping the Hornets of Big Lake.
North Branch came out strong in the opening set, cruising to a nine-point victory before getting a much tougher challenge from the Hornets in the second set. The Vikings were able to hold off Big Lake 25-22 to take a commanding two-set lead before closing things out with a 25-18 victory in the third.
The sweep was a solid performance for head coach Mike Selbitschka's squad as the Vikings look to build some momentum heading into the postseason.
North Branch finishes with two non-conference games, traveling to Rush City earlier this week and then heading to Andover for their finale on Thursday, October 22.
Monticello 3, Chisago Lakes 0
The Wildcats had a tougher time on the road Wednesday, October 14, falling to Monticello in straight sets.
Chisago Lakes struggled to get much going in the opening set, dropping a 25-12 decision, but the Wildcats were much more competitive over the final two sets.
After falling behind early, Chisago Lakes battled Monticello much closer in the second and third sets, but the Magic were able to hold off the Wildcats by identical 25-21 scores to complete the sweep.
The ‘Cats finish their regular season out this week, as they traveled to Totino-Grace earlier in the week for a section tussle before ending the regular season at Big Lake on Thursday, October 22.
Sections start for both squads on Wednesday, October 28.
