Wyoming city fire rehab projects on track, council told on-schedule

The City of Wyoming is running its own “name the snowplow” contest again this season.  The community is invited to see details on the city website and submit entries. Groups, organizations and school kids are welcome. Last year’s winner was Plow Bunyan.

The city council at their last meeting also heard an update on the refurbishing project to expand fire department space and the timeframe for tentatively shifting city operations south to the recently-acquired commercial building on Forest Boulevard.

The fire hall is being reworked and city offices will be relocated so the entire building (near the library) will become fire department use.  Structural steel delivery is expected and masonry work got underway early this month.  The council was told the schedule is on track and no major challenges have been encountered. City Hall functions should be shifting to the new building, south of downtown, around the end of 2026.  The plan for this former commercial building also involves improving space for law enforcement operations, which will move out of the public works building, now east of town on Wyoming Trail.

The upcoming agreement for the emergency radio system which Wyoming police and fire are part of was approved.

The Allied Radio Matrix agreement covers 60 radios assigned to or used by Wyoming responders.  Public safety Director and Chief of Police Neil Bauer said the city is seeing a decrease in the fee that is collected to belong to the network.  Also, Wyoming started a radio replacement purchase plan a couple years ago and has phased in the required new radios.

He added that the county fee for techs to repair and program the devices is well worth it adding,  “...the techs are easy to work with and do a wonderful job.”

Council okayed advertising for ice rink attendants. The city budgeted for two this year.  Information is on the city webpage.
