Joan Grossmann

Joan D. Grossmann, age 95 of Lindstrom, Minnesota passed away on October 23, 2026.  She was born in West St. Paul, Minnesota to William and Della Orf.  Joan was the second of five children.  She grew up in West St. Paul and graduated from South St. Paul High School in 1949.  The following year Joan married Herbert Grossmann and they moved into the home they built in Eagan, Minnesota, where they started their family.  They purchased a farm in rural Lindstrom in 1961 and Joan lived there until 2015.

Joan loved to sew, garden, can, bake, and spend time with family and friends.  She enjoyed working in several retail stores in Lindstrom over 30 years.  She was also an active member of her church and she loved the Lord.  Joan’s biggest treasure was her family.  Joan was a hardworking, devoted and loving mother and wife, raising five children and later caring for Herb 14 years, after a severe stroke.  Herb passed away in 2012.  Joan married George Pokorny in 2015 and they stayed in the Lindstrom area.  George died in 2016.

Joan is loved and will be missed by her children Jim (Cathy), Deb (Wayne) Anderson, Steve (Donna), Doug (Kathy), and David (Kim), 16 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren, brothers Roger (Jean) Orf and Ronald (Sandy) Orf, and sister-in-law Sharon Orf, five Pokorny step-children and their families, many dear relatives and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Herb and George, grandson Nathan Grossmann, brother Robert Orf, sister Joyce Meissner and sisters-in-law Marlene Jensen and Norma Gerjets, father-in-law and mother-in-law Alfred and Bertha Grossmann.

Memorial Service 11 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2026 at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City, Minnesota.  Visitation 9:30 – 11 a.m. prior to service at church.  Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City.  In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Chisago Lake Lutheran Cemetery Fund.  Appreciation is given to the kind and caring staff of Lindstrom Senior Living and Brighton Hospice Care.  Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.  Condolences may be left online at www.grandstrandfh.com
