Vikings start strong, but fizzle late against Grand Rapids
The Vikings started strong in their sectional match up against Grand Rapids last week, but the Thunderhawks took control over the final three sets to hand Nrth Branch a 3-1 loss on Tuesday, September 1
The Vikings pulled out a tight opening set, edging the Thunderhawks 26-24 to grab an early advantage. Grand Rapids answered quickly, however, evening the match with a 25-17 win in the second set.
The Thunderhawks kept the momentum going in the third, winning 25-18.
North Branch put up a stronger fight in the fourth and stayed within striking distance, but Grand Rapids was able to finish off the match with a 25-22 win.
The loss came after North Branch had swept Hopkins 3-0 at the Breakdown Side Out Classic in New Prague the previous weekend.
The Vikes will spend the next week out of conference with match ups against Forest Lake, Cloquet, Rock Ridge, Proctoer and Hermantown before starting their Missisissippi 8 Conference slate against St. Franxis onâThursday, September 17.
