Beaver Bay, depicted as the parcel outlined in graphic above, is a North Branch battery storage system. It is proposed for property across from the Xcel substation, on County Road 14. This is a different project from the DESRI battery storage system that was approved over a year ago, and is nearing completion north of the substation, and on the east side of #14.
The firm behind this early stages project, Savion, has not yet held an initial meeting with the state public utilities commissioners. PUC staff tell the Press there is no e docket number assigned yet. When the PUC gets the project application an e-docket number will be attached. The PUC website will carry announcements and progress reports during the permit review and there will be public informational meetings scheduled..
North Branch has posted a power point presentation on its city website for the Savion proposal. One of the requirements for seeking state approval is to do local outreach and connect with affected government bodies, such as North Branch. The city does not have authority to approve or disapprove of the battery storage details however. These are state regulated projects.
In graphic above the substation is to right not visible. #18 goes towards Lent Town Hall.
