Fisher

Onne Mae Fisher was born on May 1, 1924 to parents John and Florence Lindstrom. She grew up on the family farm near Chisago City, where her grandfather settled in 1888 after coming from Sweden.  She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 26, 2026.

Onne Mae was deeply proud of her Swedish heritage and carried its traditions and values with her throughout her life. Although she was an only child, she spent much of her youth surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins, forming relationships she maintained throughout her long life. Her cousin Sven, from Sweden, found her in the 70's.  He and his children visited her many times over the years.

She graduated from Chisago City High School in May 1942 as one of 20 students. After graduation, she worked at the clinic in Chisago City as the receptionist for both the dentist and the doctor. She later worked at the Chisago City Co-Op, where she met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Lorne Fisher.

Her diary recorded the beginning of their romance. She wrote that she and Dick started "going steady" on May 30, 1945. On October 13, 1945, the couple traveled to the Twin Cities with one of Dick’s friends. After lunch, she received her engagement ring.

Onne Mae and Dick were married on April 13, 1946, and shared more than 52 years together before his death in 1998. They were blessed with three children and built the large, loving family that meant so much to her. She proudly told others that she had eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She attended as many of their activities, celebrations, and special events as possible, slowing down only around the age of 101.

A devoted Lutheran, she was baptized, confirmed, and married at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City, where she will also be laid to rest. Her church was central to her life. She sang in the choir, participated in the Zion Lutheran League, and later served as the church secretary before joining Dick at the insurance agency.

She lived her entire life in Chisago City and remained deeply connected to the community she called home. She delivered Meals on Wheels with her friend, Millie Strand, and continued volunteering with other partners for many years after Millie’s death. She loved coffee, but it had to be no cream or sugar and piping hot - one of the many familiar details her family and friends will fondly remember.

Onne Mae was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Fisher; her son-in-law, Allan Grant; her grandsons, Steven Grant and Shaun Fisher; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her three children, David (Peggy) Fisher, Diane Grant, and Steve (Sandy) Fisher; her six surviving grandchildren, Annette (Bob) Quarn, Tania (Abe) Ferderer, Michelle (Trevor) Grant-Rokusek, Trista (Ian) Jorgensen, Brian (Sara) Grant, and Ryan (Regina) Fisher; the spouses of her late grandsons, Stacy Grant and Denise Fisher; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; many cousins and cherished friends.

Onne Mae will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and her community. She will be deeply missed.

Services will be on October 3, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church, Chisago City. Visitation will be from 9:30- 11 a.m., with the funeral at 11 a.m.  Memorials are preferred to Zion Community Meals, Meals on Wheels, or Zion Lutheran Church.
