Here comes the Threshing Show!

I hope you had a chance to come out and watch the annual tractor pilgrimage on Sunday.  Tractors meandered their way across the county with the final destination being the Almelund Threshing Show grounds.  We caught up with the caravan down by Bone Lake.  What a beautiful  day they had for …

When a billion dollar project needed an ace landscape they tapped Peterson Co.

Scenes from the new Vikings’ stadium open house a couple weeks ago showed thousands of visitors enjoying the new green space near the stadium.  At face value, the Downtown East Commons lends a calming visual to a sea of hardscape, but its simplicity belies the complicated aspects of this project …

It couldn’t have been a nicer day on Forest Lake,  Tuesday August 2, for Gertrude Nelson to hop on a  personal watercraft.

Center City Days was an awesome time

Center City Days has come and gone.  I will say that for all of the hype of Center City Days being bigger and better than ever, it lived up to the billing.  The entertainment was top notch, the events were thoughtfully put together and went smoothly.

It's a peach of a column this week

Because I write my column a week ahead of time, I have to make sure the next week’s column date is correct. I wrote this colum on July 28 for today and when I saw it was for August 4, I thought this couldn’t be right. Maybe my eyes are playing …

County Fair a 'cut' above the rest

The county fair last week in Rush City, where these chainsaw “racers” did their thing, ...next up is Center City Days with fire department bingo and live music tomorrow night and events through Saturday, with a Sunday morning pancake breakfast for a finale.

Center City Days is different, better

What a weekend we just had! The Chisago County Fair and the Chisago Lakes Triathlon both took place over the weekend.  Of course it was the hottest weekend of the year, it always is.  Nonetheless, both events went off without a hitch, okay maybe some small hitches, but they were manageable.  …

Blueberry history

It’s about blueberry recipes and a bit of their history today. Indian tribes treated the blueberries with high respect as on the blossom end of each berry, a calyx is formed in the shape of a perfect five point star. The legend was that the Great Spirit sent the “star berries” …

Habitat house gets walls, roof in recent days

The East Central MN Habitat for Humanity House had workers crawling over, under and inside last week-- going from just-a-slab Monday (concrete work donated by Eric Bergum Concrete) to walled-in with a roof about two days later.  The volunteer electricians came Saturday.

Triathlon needs you; fair is going on

This weekend is the ChisagoâLakes Triathlon. The race has been growing stronger in attendance each year.  With the increase in participants, also comes the need for more volunteers.  We are in dire need of volunteers to assist with water stations during the race.  If you and your family or friends …

Raspberries are at their peak

Raspberries, blueberries, black raspberries, etc. are at their peak in backyard patches, roadside stands, farmer’s market and “pick your own” places. Growing up on our small farm, we found there were blackberries growing among their thorny bushes, along with itch weed!âWearing jeans and long sleeved shirts, bucket in hand, my …
