Getting together on Night Out

Chisago City was one of 9,800 communities from all 50 states observing National Night Out. National Night Out, which celebrates and promotes police-community partnerships, crime and drug violence prevention and neighborhood unity. Nationwide over 33 million people are expected to participate in their own community’s celebrations.

Chisago City’s event Aug. 5 was attended by 300 neighbors and friends, who had an opportunity to meet their local police and fire officers. Kids took advantage of the free face painting provided by Sunshine Clown and Room For Growing sack races, while teens wrestled in the Sumo suits at the MADD booth. Hot dogs and root beer floats were served to the public by the Chisago City police, Mayor Chris DuBose and John Pechman, Chisago City Administrator.

The grand finale of the night was provided by the Chisago City Fire Department. Fire Chief Pat Boland narrated a fire department simulation as the Chisago City Fire Department lit and then extinguished a car fire.

Prizes were awarded to the National Night Out Coloring Contest winners. The contest, for ages 0-12, was won by Nick LeTourneau (age 9), who won a Huffy stunt bike. Casey Andrus and Alisha Peterson took second and third place respectively.

National Night Out is about building stronger, connected communities. A few of our neighbors deserve to be thanked for their outstanding efforts for Chisago City’s 2003 National Night Out.
