Ground broken on new St. Croix Health Medical Center
A large group of staff, patients, supporters and others excited to see the new St. Croix Medical Center break ground at its new location, were on hand June 23 for the ceremonial turning over of soil.
The new St. Croix Health campus is east of downtown St. Croix Falls, on a huge acreage that allows for one thing the healthcare provider seriously lacked at its existing facility — space.
The new building is slated to be 135,000 square feet which is actually smaller than the footprint of the current medical facility. But the design and efficiencies will be much more in tune with customer medical needs.
The emergency department will be nearly twice the size of the present day space to meet emergency demands.
The site is 200 acres and the building now under construction covers only about 30, so there is lots of room to grow and adjust and respond.
The new medical facility is planned to be one level. No stairs, elevators and hilly streets to contend with. The hospital itself is designed for 25 beds, but again, there is plenty of expansion space built in.
Construction is expected to take until 2027 with clinic occupancy and patients accepted in 2028. The St Croix Health site is on 208th Street just south of Highway 8 (east and south of Kwik Trip and Menard’s.)
