At the Minnesota State 4-H Horse Show, held at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds this fall, Meghan McCarville and her horse Rodney Goodbar were named the overall High Point Pleasure Champion. She received a first in Western Horsemanship, second in Showmanship, Trail, Hunt Seat Pleasure and Hunt Seat Equitation, and a third in Western Pleasure. The Minnesota State 4-H Horse Show draws over 670 competitors in both pleasure and game classes, consisting of the best 4-H Horse Project riders in Minnesota. These riders win slots at the show by competing well at their county fairs throughout the state. This was McCarville’s fifth year of competition at this show, which had over 150 senior high school students at her level of competition.

She also won the use of a Featherlite horse trailer for the next year.

During the Western Saddle Clubs Association (WSCA) annual banquet, in Shakopee, Minn., Oct. 25, Meghan also received the third place High Point Pleasure Rider Award for the WSCA Champ Show held Sept. 19-22 at the coliseum. This show has over 1,300 of the top pleasure riders of all ages in the upper Midwest. In addition to her pleasure points in six classes, she also won first place in the Egg and Spoon game class. She helped the Scandia Riders Saddle Club win 4th place in the Games Division and 4th place in the overall Saddle Club Competition for the WSCA Champ Show and State Fair.

McCarville is a member of the Excelsior 4-H Club of the Chisago County area, led by Tim and Jenny Holt, of Center City. Tim and Jenny Holt were instrumental in helping Meghan get her first start in showing horses by taking McCarville and her first horse to local 4-H and saddle club shows. She has been riding for six years in Pleasure and Games Classes in local and state horse shows. She has been boarding and training her horse at the Rick-A-Shay Ranch, south of Chisago City.

McCarville is a senior at Chisago Lakes High School and is the daughter of Jim and Karen McCarville, of Lindstrom.
