The Eagle Valley Bank-Springs Inn Class C women’s slowpitch softball team spent the middle of August winning games, a lot of them, rolling through the Minnesota Class C division, en route to a state championship on August 14-15.

The team started off the state tourney with four convincing wins after defeating Mr. Monogram of Mankato 20-3, the Eagles of Rush City 27-4, the Albertville Smackdowns 13-7, and team McDonalds out of Bemidji 14-0.

In the championship, they suffered their first loss of the tourney, falling to the Winona Eagles before battling back to exact some revenge in game two, defeating the Eagles 14-2 to grab the state title.

At the end of the tournament, head coach Tami Swenson knew exactly what to do with the M.V.P trophy.

“The MVP award was given to the entire team,” remarked Swenson. “They all played awesome the whole weekend.”

Especially at the plate where the team beat the softball into submission, finishing the tournament with a team batting average of .576. Individually, Sherri Alm hit .850 over the six game stretch, while Darla Fehlandt finished the weekend with an average of .772, and Amanda Gage hit .700.

Up next, the team will travel to California September 23-26 for the National Class C Slowpitch Softball Tournament.
