Rush City 35
The Chisago Lakes wrestling team didn’t mess around against Rush City, flying onto the mat, winning the first five matches en route to a 38-35 win. As it turned out, if it wasn’t for that explosive start, the ‘Cats would’ve been on the losing end when the match wrapped up.
Aaron James, Adam Gemuenden, R.J. Rhodes, Brian Jones, and John Hogie helped the Wildcats to a 29-0 lead before Rush City charged back. The Tigers responded by winning seven of the last nine matches, pulling with three at the end, 38-35. With Chisago leading 38-30 at 160 pounds, Luke Anderson secured the win for the Wildcats with a 6-2 decision win. Those three points upped Chisago’s lead to 38-30 with one match remaining.
“It was a good team effort,” said Shawn Frederixon, Chisago Lakes head wrestling coach. “We scored the bonus points and worked hard to not allow them any extra (points).”

Big Lake 47
Chisago Lakes 27
Last Thursday versus Big Lake, the ‘Cats again jumped out fast, but this time, their opponent had the last laugh. Despite trailing through the first eight matches, Big Lake won six of the final seven matches, propelling them to a 47-27 win.
Dan Gemuenden and Bobby Ferrier opened the contest with wins. Gemuenden’s pin over Tyler Sonenstahl was his 20th win of the season. Luke Anderson and Aaron James followed those wins up with pins, the last of which came from James at 189 pounds, putting the ‘Cats in the lead 24-17. However, only Scott Creen managed a win from that point on, giving the Hornets more than enough sting to pull out the win.
“It was a tough loss, but a fun dual to be apart of,” remarked Frederixon. “If we wrestled again, the score could easily be in our favor.”
The loss wrapped up the regular season for the ‘Cats meaning the postseason is just around the corner. After a week of training, the Wildcats will take the mat again Friday when the section team duals begin.
