Despite late wins by Luke Anderson and Aaron James, the Rangers continued to build their lead, finishing off the 56-19 win by taking four of the final six matches.
“We did about as good as we could have done against them,” said Shawn Frederixon, Chisago Lakes head wrestling coach. “In a year or two, we’ll be right with them, but right now, we’re just too young and too inexperienced.”
The loss was the final chapter on a frustrating season for the Wildcats. Plagued by injuries the entire year, Chisago never was able to get on track.
“It was a tough season because of all the injuries, but there were definitely some nice surprises also,” remarked Frederixon. “Bobby Ferrier and Dan Gemuenden had great seasons. We had five guys pick up 20 or more wins this year and four will be back next year, so we’re already looking ahead to next year, we should be a lot better.”
Jones, Gemuenden, Ferrier, and Anderson will all be back after posting 20 plus wins this season. Throw in Mitch Anderson, who was 14-3 before getting injured, and next year’s team will have more of a veteran feel. First though, some unfinished business to finish this season. Next up, the section individual tournament this weekend in Grand Rapids.
