Last Tuesday, the North Branch gymnastics team invaded Lindstrom to face the Wildcats, the teams’ second face to face meeting of the year (CL Invite). Paced by three tremendous all-around performances, the ‘Cats rolled past the Vikings 133.1-121.7.

The Wildcats got things started on the vault, taking four of the top five spots. Dani Medin came out on top, posting a score of 8.55.

The trend continued on the bars and the beam where the ‘Cats took four of the top five spots in both, putting them in front by a wide margin. The Vikings narrowed the gap on the floor where North Branch eighth grader Allyssa Houle took first. Still, Houle was followed by three Wildcats, giving Chisago more than enough points to wrap up the win.

Individually, Britni Harris won the all-around competition followed by Breanna Albert and Jess Eastman. Houle led the Vikings with a score of 32.35, good enough for fourth overall.

“It was nice to take first, second, and third in the all-around,” mentioned Ed Wakefield, Chisago Lakes head gymnastics coach. “We had a good meet, not great. There are still places to improve on and some falls to do away with, but all in all, a pretty good meet.”

Up next for both teams, the countdown to the conference meet. For North Branch, the Vikings have St. Michael-Albertville on the radar screen. As for Chisago, three more meets before the conference showdown on February 14.

“We really need to start putting it together,” said Wakefield. “We only have three meets left before conference.”
