He was a 1936 graduate of Chi Hi. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1937 advancing through the ranks to Major General in 1970. Aug. 11, 1948, he married Marjorie J. Craig, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served as Commanding Officer in United States, Europe and Korea. He also served in Vietnam for a year. He was awarded the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf cluster and the Distinguished Service Medal. He was instrumental in establishing the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery and the Utah State Veterans’ Nursing Home.
He is survived by sons: William Holm, of South St. Paul, Minn.; John Holm and family, of Madison, N.J.; and daughter, Kathrin Holm, of Salt Lake City, Utah. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other relatives from Chisago Lakes and the surrounding area.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for the Scholarship Fund. Funeral services were Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2500 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
