The North Branch boys golf team is in that transition phase. The Vikings can’t wait to put it all together.
Last Thursday, North Branch Vikings showed flashes of doing just that, finishing second, seven strokes behind Mora and well ahead of Pine City. However, North Branch finished with only one of their six golfers under 40. Meanwhile, Mora got a 37 and 38 from their number one and two players, giving them the edge on the scorecard.
“We could’ve played better. Our number one and two guys, I’m expecting them to be below 40 on that course,” said Tom Moriarty, North Branch head boys golf coach. “I thought Mora played well. We knew going into the season that it would most likely be between us, Chisago Lakes, and Mora, and that’s the way it’s turning out.”
Tyler Leland led the Vikings with a 38. Bryan Peters followed with a 41.

Different meet, same problem.
Last Friday, while their scores were consistent, the Vikings failed to get a golfer below 40. On the other side, Princeton had two golfers shoot in the 30’s including Josh Dahl who led everyone with a 35. The disparity on the course showed in the final score as the Tigers rolled to a nine stroke win.
“We didn’t make it happen with our top guys,” said Moriarty. “When your number five golfer comes in with your low score, that’s not good. Forty-one’s and 42’s are not bad, but when the other team comes in with a 35, that hurts.”
Brad Peters paced the Vikings with a 40 followed by Tom Koep who carded a 41.
Next up for the Vikings is Milaca and the Rum River conference meet, both on the road. North Branch follows that up with Chisago Lakes on May 24.
