Santa is back in town

Santa is back in town

We have had many calls here at the Press asking if we know where Santa might be locally. Well, this Saturday and Sunday you are in luck. Santa will be at the Shafer Creamery on both days from 1-4 p.m. Your child can sit on his lap and tell him about that special present they would like this Christmas. On top of listening to all the hopeful wishes, he will be handing out treats and toys for the younger children. While you are there make sure you check out all of the neat Christmas gifts available at the Creamery.

Keeping on the subject of Santa, there is still quite a need for toy donations in the Santa Anonymous project. If you could please purchase a $10-$20 range non-violent gift for a child of any age, it would be very much appreciated. There are drop sites all around town and if you can’t find one, call us here at the Press, we’d be happy to help out. Last year the Santa Anonymous drive helped over 900 children have a happier Christmas. Let’s pull together and make this year’s even better. The deadline is quickly approaching (December 20) so we have to act fast. Thank you.

The election over in Iraq has produced a much larger than anticipated turnout. Originally it was thought that the polling places would be singled out as potential terrorist acts, but thankfully have not really materialized. I do, however, think it is a bit strange that Iraqis living here in the U.S. are allowed to vote. These people are store owners and various other staples in our society. It seems to me that they have a good life over here, so why would they have a say who is running a country they do not live in? Maybe it’s just me but my family is from Ireland and I don’t think I have voted in any of their elections. Hopefully the people of Iraq will vote in a new regime that is fair to all sects and there will be peace, and we can bring our men and women back here for good.

We are definitely going to have a white Christmas this year. As much of a pain it is to shovel, it just makes the Christmas season seem right. And if you have children, you know how happy it makes them. I say bring on the white stuff!
