Chisago Lakes 76

Mora 67

One of the reasons why Chisago Lakes figured this was their year to win the conference was because of the strength of their senior class.

Last Tuesday versus Mora, the 'Cats seniors flexed their muscles by scoring 62 of the teams 76 points in a 76-67 win.  The victory stretched their conference winning streak to 10 games and it put them two full games ahead of Mora in the standings with five conference games left.

Senior Levi Secord had his best night of the season.  The 6’6 post got the Wildcats started in the first quarter, scoring nine points. Secord was one of six 'Cats who scored in the first, helping them to a 21-17 lead after one.

However, the Mustangs had a go-to player of their own in Eric Dalley. Dalley helped Mora strike back in the second quarter with 17 points- 10 coming from Dalley himself.  Meanwhile, even though Secord struck for six more in the second and David Olson added five, the Wildcats still found themselves in a tie at the half, 34-34.

This entire season, Chisago’s best moves have come in the second period, and versus Mora, it was no different.

The Wildcats moved in front for good in the third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 22-15 in the quarter.  Once again, the 'Cats seniors led the way.  After scoring nine points in the first half, Olson lit up the Mustangs for 11 in the third quarter.  In addition, Secord scored four and Mike Tschida hit the first of his two three-pointers in the game, helping Chisago build a 56-49 lead with one-quarter left.  In all, the Wildcats scored 22 points in the third; their best eight minute stretch of the game.

And it turned out to be the difference in the game as Secord, Olson, and company finished the Mustangs off.  Olson was one of four players who scored for Chisago down the stretch, scoring seven in the quarter.

That burst gave the senior guard 27 for the game.  Secord scored six in the fourth giving him 25.  Chisago won the game 76-67.

It wasn't only what Olson and Secord managed to do.  In all, a total of 10 Wildcats scored in the game and 13 players saw playing time.
