North Branch takes step backwards with losses to Big Lake and Rocori
“Forfeiting two weights is not how we would have liked to wrestle those two teams, but that’s the way it goes in wrestling sometimes,” said Tony Aho, North Branch head wrestling coach. “All season, the other guys have been stepping up when we have someone out, but this time it didn’t happen.”
Versus Big Lake, the Hornets spotted six points because the Vikings didn’t have a wrestler at 135 pounds. That paired with a solid start helped Big Lake build momentum throughout the match. Despite five North Branch wins, three by pin, the Hornets had more than enough to solidify a 42-24 win.
Against Rocori, the Vikings had to forfeit two weight classes. Take away those 12 points and it’s a 10-point match- meaning anything can happen. Instead, Rocori breezed to a 44-24 win, handing North Branch their second consecutive defeat. Among the Vikings who picked up a win were Adam Gades, Joe Lofboom, Ryan Decorsey, Nick Grandt, and Cory Crowell.
