During the 2004 season, Shanahan was credited with 42 tackles, 33 solo and nine assisted. He led the team with 10 pass break-ups and blocked kicks with two. He was also second on the defensive unit with four interceptions.
For his efforts, he has been selected as a co-captain for the 2005 season by his teammates.
The Norse completed the 2004 season winners of five of their last six games, including the last four in a row, en route to an overall record of 6-4. This marks the first time since the 1991 (5-4) and 1992 (6-4) seasons that Luther has posted back-to-back winning records. In the Iowa Conference, Luther finished in a tie for third place with a record of 5-3.
Shanahan is a 2002 graduate of Chisago City High School and is the son of Dan and Debbie Shanahan of Chisago City, Minn.

Combined, the Norse have captured an unprecedented 180 IIAC titles.
