Reese Shanahan, a junior defensive back on the Luther College football team, has been presented his second collegiate letter. Head Coach Paul Hefty released the 2004 letter winners prior to the Christmas break. There were 21 letter winners on defense and 26 on offense, plus three letters presented to special team members, for a total of 50.

During the 2004 season, Shanahan was credited with 42 tackles, 33 solo and nine assisted. He led the team with 10 pass break-ups and blocked kicks with two. He was also second on the defensive unit with four interceptions.

For his efforts, he has been selected as a co-captain for the 2005 season by his teammates.

The Norse completed the 2004 season winners of five of their last six games, including the last four in a row, en route to an overall record of 6-4. This marks the first time since the 1991 (5-4) and 1992 (6-4) seasons that Luther has posted back-to-back winning records. In the Iowa Conference, Luther finished in a tie for third place with a record of 5-3.

Shanahan is a 2002 graduate of Chisago City High School and is the son of Dan and Debbie Shanahan of Chisago City, Minn.

Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. It is located in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse compete in 10 men’s and nine women’s intercollegiate sports. As a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) since 1922, Luther men have won 133 conference championships. Combined, the Norse have captured an unprecedented 180 IIAC titles.
