‘Get the dirt,’ Bonanza is coming soon to North Branch
Let's get to it! The Chisago County Master Gardeners are busy planning their 8th annual Spring Gardening Bonanza, "Get the Dirt" which will be held Saturday, March 4, at the Abundant Life Church, 4359 392nd Street, North Branch, from 8:30 a.m. -3 p.m.
Many of you look forward to this annual event from the Master Gardeners every spring. The first one was held eight years ago at Fairview Lakes Hospital in Wyoming. The last three years we have been at Maranatha Church just north of Forest Lake. This year's event will be in North Branch. The Abundant Life Church is located on Hwy. 95 in North Branch, 2 miles west of Interstate Hwy. 35. Registration brochures will be available at the Extension Office in North Branch at the end of January. If you would like to have one mailed to you, call the office at 651-674-4417 and we will send you one as soon as they are available.
This year we will be featuring displays and workshops from a variety of plant societies and experts. You can also stop by the Master Gardener table to ask questions, check out our bookstore and order bare root fruit plants for spring delivery. The always popular 'Gardener's Marketplace' will feature gardening related merchandise for sale from local garden centers.
They will have been digging in the dirt already and be excited to let you know what is new for this year!
The day will be divided into two sessions of workshops. You can register for up to three classes during either the morning or afternoon session. We encourage you to spend some time during the rest of the day getting your questions answered at the booths. There will be lunch available for purchase.
The bare root plant order forms will be mailed along with the brochure. We will again be selling blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, grape and asparagus.
The past couple of years there have been classes at the Gardening Bonanza on how to grow these plants. Because theses classes have been so popular, we will be presenting them as a separate weekly series this spring, which will also include some vegetable gardening topics. The schedule for the 'Spring Gardening Series--Growing Edibles' will be available at Bonanza.
I guess you can see that Master Gardeners manage to stay busy during the winter! Remember that the voicemail is available all year long at 651-674-4417. Maybe you have a houseplant problem or a question about something you saw in a gardening catalog. During office hours ask for the Master Gardener voicemail, after hours, select ext. 18.
