Take advantage of ‘open late’

Thank you for your generosity

Now that we have turned the corner on Thanksgiving, it is time to focus on Christmas shopping. The good folks who operate businesses in our area have taken the extra step to help you with your shopping quandaries.

The bulk majority of businesses have agreed to stay open later, meaning that you will now be able to shop later than usual. You can absolutely find something for everyone at one or more of our local stores. I hope you will take advantage of their “open late” specials.

Keeping in tune with the Christmas shopping season, the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with many local businesses this season to offer you Chamber Gift Checks. Much like gift certificates, the checks can be purchased in almost any denomination and can be used at any of the businesses participating. You can purchase these checks at the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber or Dinnerbel Bay or Totally You. For more information call 651-257-1177.

I know it’s getting late, but call your girlfriends up and head up to Lindstrom’s Ladies’ Night Out tonight (Thursday). As usual, you will find wonderful specials throughout the town along with snacks and some free gifts. Have fun!

I would like to personally thank each and every person who has recently donated to the local food shelves. I sometimes feel like a broken record talking about donating, but you have really outdone yourselves this year. It seems like we have two or three photos every week of some group donating quite a lot of food. It is so nice to see such a caring, responsible community in an era of me, me, me. Thank you for your donations and let’s keep them coming.

If you read last week’s Chisago County Press, hopefully you read the story about the Swedish Immigrant Trail. For those of you who don’t know about the trail, there is a group of individuals and governments trying to link the Sunrise Prairie Trail, in Wyoming, to the Gandy Dancer Trail in Wisconsin. That would mean constructing a trail through Chisago City, Lindstrom, Center City, Shafer and Taylors Falls. I truly believe what these dedicated individuals are trying to accomplish would be one of the best things to ever happen to the area. It would allow for pedestrian travel from town to town without fearing for your life on a highway, it would bring businesses into the area, it would bring tourists to the area, visitors would pay taxes on purchases thus helping our tax base and many other positive attributes. If and when you hear about the next Swedish Immigrant Trail meeting, I would highly encourage you to attend. These people are trying to make our area even better than it already is and they could use your support.

Well, it always happens, I write off the Minnesota Vikings and they play the game of their life. Maybe I should have been doing this from the get-go. So, for all you Vikings fans I will help you out by not watching a single down. At this rate, the Vikes will probably sneak into the Super Bowl.

The Chisago County Press is still looking for a reporter to cover Taylors Falls City Council meetings. We also have an opening for a Lent Township reporter. These two beats could be combined if someone wanted to. It is a great opportunity to earn some money and learn about your local government. You can call Denise or Matt at 651-257-5115 for more details.
