“Learning from our match on Tuesday (against North Branch), we came out strong against Columbia. It was a super match,” said Wildcat coach Nicole DeVries. “We played consistently at our level the entire time, and were able to execute well the entire match.
“We were also able to give playing time to some girls that are not usually in the regular rotation. One of those entries was Rachel Nelson, a freshman and JV player, who was able to come off the bench and put down the ball on a convincing block and later get her first varsity kill. Another was Cortney Bourgoin, who came off the bench to serve and play good defense,” the coach continued.
“Other notable players include Mel Lewis and Morgan Baumgard who played super in the back row, setting up what would become many kills for our twin towers (Krista Swanson and Jess Peterson) and our setter, Courtney Fautsch, who rounded off the night with five convincing kills,” DeVries added.
The Wildcats continue their season at home tonight (October 5) against Irondale’s Knights.
