Lakeside School student Emily Kerr's essay, "Why I am Glad America is a Nation of Immigrants" was selected as the first place winner by the American Immigration Law Foundation's local chapter. She receives $200, two water park tickets, a t-shirt from the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, and the opportunity to read her essay before a group of new Americans at an upcoming naturalization ceremony. This essay will now be entered into the national contest. The winning national essay is printed in the Congressional Record and the winner and three guests will receive a trip to Orlando, Florida.
