Two area girls have earned titles from the United Barrel Racing Association. Courtney Lunzer and Danielle Schuna of Lindstrom competed in the UBRA season that ran from October 1, 2005 and September 30, 2006.

Lunzer earned the titles of the UBRA World Youth second division (2D) Grand Champion and the MN Youth 2D Grand Champion for the 2006 racing season. Schuna earned Reserve Grand Champion in World Youth 1D and 2D, as well as in World and MN Open 2D.

Both girls won award buckles at the Oasis Equestrian Center UBRA Certified Summer series. Schuna won the year-end saddle award at Oasis, located north of Center City on County Road 9. They received many awards for their championship titles. Awards include embroidered UBRA jackets, embroidered winter horse blankets, personalized/embroidered travel bags and other items they were able to choose based on their points.

These awards were in addition to the money won during numerous jackpot barrel races and series awards won at UBRA certified events held at local arena(s) such as Oasis Equestrian Center and Houck Horse Company in North Branch.

UBRA members earn points by racing at UBRA certified barrel races. Both girls board their horses at Oasis and regular participants at events held at the center. Oasis holds UBRA certified barrel races every Thursday night (Jan.-Nov.) and one or two weekend races (Jan.-Nov.) Other arenas that also hold UBRA certified events include Houck Horse Company in North Branch, Rhino Arena in Hinckley, MN, JJ Arena in Balsam Lake, WI, I90 Expo Center in Sherburn, MN and many more.

There were over 10,000 UBRA certified barrel race runs held during the 2005/2006 racing season. Members receive points that go toward year-end standings at all ubra certified shows. The year-end champions receive awards for the points they earned.

Lunzer, 13, is a seventh grader at Chisago Lakes Middle School. Her parents are Robb and Cathie Lunzer of rural Lindstrom. Schuna is 15 and attends Forest Lake High School.   Her parents are Steve and Bobbi Schuna of Lindstrom.
