Wildcat golfers bring home conference title

The Chisago Lakes and North Branch golf teams completed their North Suburban Conference seasons at Pebble Creek in Becker Thursday, May 17.

Chisago Lakes

The Wildcat boys, led by senior Luke Angrimson, extended their lead and took home the NSC championship plaque for the Wildcat trophy case. The girls' team had a solid performance which secured a fifth place conference finish.

Boys

The Wildcat boys held a two point advantage over Benilde-St. Margaret's before the Pebble Creek NSC event began. BSM closed the gap to one by winning on the challenging, 3300 yard Red Course with a total of 152 to pick up 10 points. The Wildcats' 155 gave them second place and nine points.

On the White Course, the Wildcats pulled away from Benilde by winning with a 152 giving them 10 more points in the conference standings. Meanwhile, BSM carded a 160, good enough for fourth place and seven points.

Girls

The Wildcat girls, after being in sixth place in the NSC at midseason, climbed one spot in the conference standings with their performance at Pebble Creek.

Junior Megan Corradi shot a 42 on the Blue Course to lead the 'Cats to a 189 and five points in the conference standings. Sophomore Krista Liebsch carded a 44 on the White Course. Her score helped CL to a 196 and five more NSC points.

North Branch

Boys

The young Viking boys recorded identical 184's on the two nines at Pebble Creek. Seventh grader Jerad Houle had a good day for NB. He had a team low of 90 for the 18 holes. His 45 tied junior Doug Jorgenson on the red nine. Sophomore Jack Williams' 45 matched Houle's score on the white nine.

"This was only our second 18 hole meet of the year," said North Branch head coach Tom Moriarty. "Hopefully the experience here will help us at Section Meet in Hinckley next week."

North Branch Girls

The Viking girls had scores of 202 on the Blue Course and and 204 on the White Course at Pebble Creek. They picked up three conference points on each nine and finished seventh of 10 schools in the NSC.

Senior Lacee Scherer led the Vikings on each nine. She played her most consistent round on the blue nine, where she recorded a par and five bogies on the way to a 46. On the white nine, Scherer had four pars, but also had two big holes as she finished with a 47.

The Wildcat and Viking girls were scheduled to play in the Section 7AA Meet at Grand National Golf Course Wednesday, May 23. The first round of the boys meet is scheduled for today, May 24, also at Hinckley. The top three boys and girls teams and the top individual finishers will compete in the section finals on Memorial Day in Hinckley.
