CL 4, Columbia Heights 3
September 18 at CLHS
1S Alyssa Lundberg lost 4-6, 7-6, 1-6
2S Kristen Dobosenski lost 3-6, 4-6
3S Kristen Lee won 5-7, 6-1, 6-1
4S Ali Turnquist won 6-2, 6-3
1D Tracy Schneider/Jess Olson won 6-4, 7-6
2D Christina Leaf/Gretchen Richter lost 3-6, 3-6
3D Megan Corradi/Michelle Caneday won 6-0, 6-0
Cooper 5, Chisago Lakes 2
September 24 at Cooper
"The match against Cooper was stopped short because of rain. First singles, first doubles and third doubles had to head back a few days later to finish," commented Wildcat head coach Steve Otte. "Cooper was a great match-up because they are at the upper end of the conference and gave the Wildcats a chance to see where the team is at. There were many great points and games played. But, Cooper proved why they are towards the top of the conference."
Meet Summary/Coach's Comments
1S Alyssa Lundberg lost 6-4, 0-6, 1-6
Alyssa's match was stopped with her down 1-5 in the third set and serving at love-40. She one the first point but lost the next point when her opponent hit a winner.
2S Kristen Dobosenski lost 3-6, 2-6
3S Kristen Lee lost 2-6, 1-6
4S Ali Turnquist lost 2-6, 1-6
1D Tracy Schneider/Jess Olson lost 2-6, 7-5, 2-6
First doubles played a great second set to force the match to a third set. The rain-out seemed to pull the momentum that they had going for them and Cooper came back strong in the third set.
2D Christina Leaf/Gretchen Richter won 6-0, 6-2
Christina and Gretchen ran away with this match. They had things on "Cruise Control" and rolled to an easy victory.
3D Megan Corradi/Michelle Caneday won 7-5, 7-6
Third doubles played a very close match and won the big points that they needed to win.
Chisago Lakes 6, Fridley 1
Tuesday, September 25
at CLHS
"The Lady Wildcats played this match at home and talk about home court advantage. They got off to a quick start and never really looked back. I was really impressed with how they played. They were aggressive and took advantage of points when they had the chance," Otte said.
Meet Summary/Coach's Comments
1S Alyssa Lundberg lost 3-6, 6-7
Alyssa made a great charge in the second set, but it was just not enough to pull out a win.
2S Kristen Dobosenski won 6-2, 2-6, 7-6
This was Dobo's first three set match of the year and she played it very well. The third set went to a tie-breaker and she played it extremely well.
3S Kristen Lee won 6-1, 6-2
Kristen made easy work of her opponent. She was able to make her opponent hot numerous unforced errors during the match.
4S Ali Turnquist won 7-6, 6-4
Ali was in a battle in this match. There were many close points and she did a great job keeping her emotions in check to pull out the victory.
1D Tracy Schneider/Jess Olson won 6-1, 6-1
Tracy and Jess played a fast match. They never let their opponents get into a rhythm on the courts and that was great to see.
2D Christina Leaf/Gretchen Richter won 6-2, 7-6
Christina and Gretchen are playing really good tennis. They talk to each other and work hard to win. I'm really proud of the tennis they are playing.
3D Megan Corradi/Michelle Caneday won 6-1, 6-4
Third doubles had an easy win today. They kept the ball in play and kept the pressure on their opponents.
CL 5, North Branch 2
Thursday, September 27 at CLHS
"The match with North Branch was closer than the score indicates," coach Otte commented. "There were some even matches on the court when a 20-minute rain delay occurred. The Wildcats did a better job coming out of the rain delay than North Branch and started to pull out a lead in many of the matches."
Meet Summary/Coach's Comments
1S Alyssa Lundberg won 6-0, 6-1
Alyssa took control in the match right away and never gave her opponent a chance to come back.
2S Kristen Dobosenski won 6-7, 6-2, 12-10
Kristen mentioned against Fridley that she had not had a three set match all year and it seems to have jinxed her a little. Here she was in another three set match. She did a great job moving her opponent around and tiring her out on the court. Kristen did a great job pulling out the victory
3S Kristen Lee lost 5-7, 2-6
Lee fought hard in this match but her opponent was just a little better today.
4S Ali Turnquist won 6-3, 6-3
Ali played good tennis. She kept her opponent moving at game to the net to end some easy points.
1D Tracy Schneider/Jess Olson lost 2-6, 3-6
First doubles had their hands full in this match. North Branch paired up to very good girls they never really let the Wildcats get into a groove during the match.
2D Christina Leaf/Gretchen Richter won 6-2, 6-1
Once again second doubles took control early and went on to win easily.
3D Megan Corradi/Michelle Caneday won 6-1, 6-4
Megan and Michelle have really worked well together and are playing really well. I would have to say that they are one of the better third doubles teams in the conference.
The Wildcats start section team play Monday, October 8. The site and opponent were unknown at deadline.
