Taco Daze, was that Ingmar Bergman that walked past?

If you are looking for something to do this weekend, why not give Scandia Taco Daze a try. Every year the good folks of Scandia come up with a new theme for celebrating Taco Daze. This year's theme is Dalawood. Dalawood has a Swedish Hollywood theme that also has a Swedish movie star look-a-like contest. So if you think you look like Ingmar Bergman or Gretta Garbo, here is your chance.

Taco Daze is famous for having wonderful food specials all around town. There is an art fair, a farmers' market, a flea market, a dodgeball tournament, two parades, tons of live music, and enough tacos for your whole family. We have gone to Taco Daze the last two years and had a blast. Hopefully you can get there and see how fun it is in person.

With school starting, also comes falls sports. The Wildcats and the Vikings have begun all fall sports. If you have never been to a high school sporting event, you are missing out. Both schools really put a great product out on the field or court. Regardless of the outcome, you are guaranteed a great effort each and every time. The Wildcat football team, who lost a lot of seniors, just beat ranked Farmington in their season opener. Hopes are high for all of our local teams, so let's try to get out and support them.

The winning numbers are out for the Ki Chi Saga Days buttons. The numbers are: 182 - 1st place, 324 - 2nd place, 137 - 3rd place, 402 - 4th place, and 253 - 5th place. You are encouraged to call Chisago City Hall at 651-257-4162 to claim your prizes.

Now that school has started, it gives me some time to reflect on the past summer spent with my kids. I made a commitment to myself and my children last winter. The commitment was to spend as much time with them as I possibly could this summer. Being a business owner, there will always be times where you are expected to be places, sometimes at inopportune times, but that is part of the business. While you may get conflicting stories from my wife, I think that I accomplished my goal this summer.

I was blown away to see what little adults they have become in six and eight short years. When did it become hip to constantly correct your old man over the most trivial stuff, like the names of the kids in High School Musical. Apparently Sharpay is no longer a wrinkly dog but rather a spoiled girl who likes to sing by the pool.

My 8-year-old is into Playstation games and anything to do with sports. Oh, there are a couple of girls out there who will make him forget about basketball for a second, but then it's right back to playing Guitar Hero (after all he has to work on his riffs if he is going to be the next guitarist for Kiss).

I know this is rambling on, but the point I originally was trying to make was that children grow up so fast. Ever since our first child was born, people were always telling us to enjoy them now because in a snap, they will be grown up. Once again (even though at the time it sounds crazy), our parents really do know what they are talking about.
