Chisago Lakes falls behind early, can't recover
Tinjum has another double-double, Ristow shines on defense
With the defending state champions coming into town, the Chisago Lakes girls basketball team knew they were going to have their hands full.
Couple last years success with the fact that the Totino-Grace remains unbeaten this year so far, and it had the recipe for a long night for the 'Cats.
Although the first half didn't go well for them, the Wildcats did recover to keep the game respectable in the second half.
"We made a couple of runs at them, forcing them to call timeouts to stop our momentum," Head Coach Craig Walker said. "Their shooting depth hurt us, five of their players hit threes and they made five-of-eight in the second half. We very well might see them again in sections and we will cover their three-point shooters better."
After falling behind by 20 in the first half at 39-19, the Wildcats rebounded to keep the second half even at 25-25.
Whitney Tinjum was the only offensive gem for the Cats, scoring 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. It was her 10th double-double of the season.
Kelsey Ristow had an amazing defensive game against the Eagles, nabbing eight steals, five rebounds and three blocks. "She played an outstanding defensive game, it was her best of the year against the best team we've played," Walker said. "Hopefully, others will follow her lead as we continue to improve defensively."
