As you know, Veterans Day fell on Wednesday this week. That means the Post Offices were closed, which also means people received their papers a day late. Although it doesn't happen all that often, we occasionally run into holidays that fall on mailing days. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Speaking of Veterans. If you have read my columns in the past, you know what a soft spot I hold in my heart for our Veterans.

Not only did these brave men and women serve our great country, fighting for our freedom, but they also have brought so much more to our community. We have some of the most active Vets in the world right here in our back yard. They have built a Veterans Memorial that is second to none. They brought us the traveling Vietnam Healing Wall this summer which was spectacular. In fact, if you attend any public function in our area, chances are there are some Vets who have given their time.

What I am really trying to say is, Thank You. Thank you to our local Vets for all you have done in the past, and all you continue to do.

We here at the Press are getting started on the 2010 Chisago Lakes Community Guide and Visitors Guide and we need your help. The past few years, we have solicited and used readers' photos in our guides.

We need your help once again. We are looking for some really great photos that emphasize the Chisago Lakes Area. The photos can be of whatever you think expresses Chisago Lakes. The Chisago County Press is working with a heavy heart this week. Sadly, the mother of Joanne Sackreiter, who is one of our sales associates, passed away late last week. Her mother who was born in Poland, lived most of her life in St. Paul. She lived to be 98 years old. We would like to pass along our deepest sympathy to Joanie and her family.
