Energy Hog visits students

During the month of November, the Energy Hog paid a visit to fourth and fifth grade classrooms as part of North Branch Area Public Schools educational efforts to reduce energy costs through participation in the Schools for Energy Efficiency Program. The Energy Hog is part of a national effort to raise public awareness of the benefits of saving energy at school and at home and was developed by the Ad Council, creators of Smokey the Bear and McGruff the Crime Dog. As the bad guy, Energy Hog cheers for those who waste energy and was enthusiastically given "the boot" out of the school by students. NBAPS has been very successful in efforts to save energy through involvement in the SEE program and, in addition to avoiding over $150,000 in energy costs, recently was recognized as an Energy Star Leader for their efforts.
