Did you get a chance to see Santa this weekend? Santa made an appearance at both Chisago City and Lindstrom's lighting festivals this weekend. It was the perfect weekend with new snow on the ground and crisp temps.

The festivals were part of Chisago Lakes Small Town Christmas Celebration. Judging from all the vehicles in town, it appears the celebration was a huge hit. The lighting festivals were well attended and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Thank you to the Small Town Christmas committee for doing such a wonderful job, and an even bigger thank you to the businesses who took part in the celebration. This area never ceases to amaze me how everyone can work together toward a common goal.

Even though the Small Town Christmas has passed, it doesn't mean there are not still great deals to be had locally. Make sure you look locally for your Christmas gifts this year, we have some wonderful businesses that would love to help you.

If you happen to not have plans this Christmas, the good folks at the First United Methodist Church in Lindstrom would love to have you over for dinner. They will be holding a great Christmas dinner and you are invited. The dinner will take place between noon and 1:15 p.m. on Christmas Day. They would like you to make reservations by December 20, just so they know how much food to prepare. If you are going to be alone this Christmas or are unable to leave your home, please call by December 20, and someone will arrange for a meal to be delivered to you.

If you would like to help out with the dinner or if you would like to donate food items please call Wendy at 257-8791 or Lois at 257-5547.

I'm continually reminded about the generosity of the people in our community. Here is a great opportunity that will also benefit you. Family Pathways is a community non-profit that operates programs for youth, seniors, and area food shelves. They have now opened North Branch Used Books on Main Street in North Branch. From what I hear from my staff, it is a great bookstore. North Branch Used Books is offering special Gift Certificates for Christmas. They will add $5 to every Christmas gift certificate of $20 or more. A $25 Christmas gift certificate to the North Branch Used Brook store will only cost you $20. Check it out.

If you have been thinking about attending the Chisago Lakes Wrestling Fundraiser, I would encourage you to purchase your tickets soon. If you ask anyone who attended last year's event, they would tell you that it filled up, way up. Granted this year's event is at the Lent Town Hall which is bigger than Chisago City Community Center, but it will fill up. I took my son to the fundraiser last year and he had a blast. Almost every person walked out the door with some sort of prize or wad of money. If you would like to purchase tickets to the fundraiser, please call Joe Virga at 651-257-1000.

Thanks to all the children who have submitted their color contest art. There is still time to get yours in before we pick this year's winners. The coloring page is located in the 2010 Gift Guide that you received in your Search Shopper a few weeks ago. If you have misplaced your Gift Guide, don't worry. Just stop by the Press here in Lindstrom and pick up a copy. Have your child color their picture and either send it in or drop it off in person. Our mailing address is PO Box 748, Lindstrom, MN 55045.

If you would like to make a donation to Toys for Tots, everyone at ReMax Complete would like to help. They are currently collecting toys for children who otherwise would not have any presents this year. You can stop by anytime and drop off your donations. They will be accepting the toys until December 15. They will then drive all the collected toys down to a drop off site where the toys will find themselves in the hands of grateful boys and girls.

If I could talk sports here for just one second. I know that there is minimal interest in Gopher football in the state, but I have always been a fan. I have attended many Gopher games over the years and have followed them faithfully. If you have been watching the news over the last month or so, you must have seen a report about the coaching search that took place.

The Athletic Director Joel Maturi has told the public that they were specifically looking for a big hire such as the Tubby Smith hire for the basketball program. Football fans were enthused and had been speculating about who the Gophers might choose. As it turns out, they hired the coach from Northern Illinois University. What? Yes they have a new stadium that will keep fannies in the seats for a while, but hopefully we don't get to see how great the stadium looks when there are no people in the seats.
