What a wonderful weekend it was for a celebration in Chisago Lakes. This year's Celebration of the Lakes was in a word, amazing. I truly hope you got out to enjoy a little or a lot of this year's celebration. If you didn't, you missed the biggest, most entertaining, well attended celebration ever.

I can't remember the last time the balloons took flight all three scheduled times during the celebration. This year, there were more balloons than in the past, and they all took flight.

There were a few new events that the public really seemed to enjoy. Motorcycle and ATV ice racing was new, and from the size of the crowds watching, it will be back next year. There was also golf and a pond hockey tournament this year that were well attended.

What a beautiful weekend for taking pictures. With the sun out, the balloons filled the sky. I hope you took some photos for your scrapbooks. It's not every year that we get sun and light winds that allow all of the balloons to fly.

If I could bend your ear for a moment. I know I say this a lot, but these celebrations, these community gatherings, they all have one thing in common. Committees.

Do you realize how lucky we are to have such wonderful people who take time out of their busy schedules to plan and organize these events? We have such an amazing group of people putting in countless hours behind the scenes so you and I can enjoy these festivals and celebrations. These people are your neighbors, business owners and people who volunteer just to give back to this great community.

Thank you to the Celebration of the Lakes committee for once again outdoing yourselves and somehow making an already great celebration even better.

If the Celebration of the Lakes got your festival juices going, you will be happy to hear North Branch is holding its annual WinterFest next week. I will let you know all of the goings on in my next column.

The Chisago Lakes Home & Garden Business show is filling quickly. If you would like to be in the show, I would highly encourage you to call Community Ed at 651-213-2600. Early registration is quite a bit ahead of last year's show, so don't be left out.

The Home Show is a terrific show where you will get three to four thousand people walking by your booth. How is that for public visibility? Ask any business who has participated in the past, and they will tell you it is one of the largest home shows around. The 2010 Home & Garden Business Show is February 27 & 28 at the Chisago Lakes Senior High School.

It's that time of year....Celebration of the Lakes is in the rear view mirror, North Branch WinterFest starts soon, and we at the Press are thinking Spring. Starting this week, and continuing through the golf season, we are offering something new on our sports page. Todd "Kipp" Kueppers, PGA Professional and General Manager of the Chisago Lakes Golf Course will be writing Kipp's Tips. Todd has been teaching golf players of all skill levels for nearly 20 years and has "seen it all" in his teaching career. Todd's teaching philosophy is to simplify the golf swing into as few thoughts as possible by focusing on fundamentals. Watch for Kipp's Tips and maybe you will see some improvement in your golf game.
