Taylors Falls was offering a pilot summer youth program for four days this summer. If the sessions are deemed to have gone well, the program will be expanded and offered again next summer.

Held at the Old Depot/Memorial Community Center, the program ran from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 22, 24, 29 and July 1.

Parks & Recreation Commission members donated a majority of arts and crafts supplies and the program asked for $1 contribution per child to help pay for a snack. Community members made things lively volunteering to demonstrate or teach the youngsters about hula dancing, pole vaulting, yoga and golf. Diane Nelson, Parks Commission member, said the city boosters felt something was needed for children who weren't able to attend the Taylors Falls Pioneer School or Community Education Enrichment Week programming.

An AmeriCorps volunteer, two Chisago Lakes School District staffers and a National Honor Society student also pitched in.
