Muriel Ruth Gustafson Burnett passed away May 26, 2010 at Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 6, 1925 in Center City, Minnesota to Albert and Ruth Gustafson. After graduating cum laude from the University of Minnesota in Chemistry and Swedish, she taught high school classes in Clara City and Annandale, Minnesota. Feeling adventurous, she came to Colorado to take a summer class; on the spur of the moment, she interviewed and received a teaching position at Colorado Springs High School. At the high school, she met history teacher Wes Burnett, and they were married on March 25, 1956. They had three children: Ann, David, and Mary. Besides being a wonderful wife and mother, Muriel was involved in activities at First Congregational Church, including Plymouth Circle, Sunday school, 9 to Dine, Kitchen Witches, and the bereavement committee. She led a Boy Scout Troop, donated time with the Assistance League, spent a great deal of time as a docent at the Rock Ledge Ranch, and worked for District 11 Administration. A fantastic seamstress, she sewed clothes, prom dresses, and suits for herself and her daughters.

Muriel is survived by her husband, Wes; her daughter Ann (husband, Mark) of Moorhead, Minnesota, her son David (wife, Sharon) of Salina, Kansas, and her daughter Mary (husband, Ken) of Lenexa, Kansas. She also is survived by her grandchildren Carolina, Tyler and Cody. Her parents and brother, Gordon, preceded her in death.

Memorial Services were Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at First Congregational Church UCC. She will be cremated and memorialized at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Camp Scholarship fund or Kitchen Witches fund at First Congregational Church.
